Common questions

What is Cox flexion-distraction?

Cox flexion-distraction is a form of spinal manipulation developed by James Cox, DC. The chiropractor guides gentle, rhythmic movement of the spine (flexion) while lengthening it (distraction) on a specially designed table.

How is it different from a standard adjustment?

A standard adjustment applies a quick, controlled force to a joint. Flexion-distraction uses slower, rhythmic movement guided by the chiropractor on the table. Your chiropractor decides which technique, or which combination, fits your evaluation.

What does it feel like?

You lie on the table while the chiropractor guides the movement with their hands. People generally describe a gentle stretching and movement sensation. Tell us right away if anything is uncomfortable so the approach can be adjusted.

Is it right for everyone?

No. Whether this technique is appropriate depends on your health history and exam, so we start with an in-person evaluation. Share your full health history with us before your first visit.

How many visits will I need?

That is set only after your in-person evaluation, and it varies from person to person. We do not promise a specific result.
